Snack Bars Vienna: Where to Find Quality Fast Food from Austria

Snack Bars Vienna. At our traditional sandwich and snack bars you get quality food from Austria, which is a far cry from mainstream snacks.

The basis for most of these snacks is dark Austrian sourdough bread and rolls, soft inside, with a crunchy upper crust. You can delve into crispy breads and fluffy spreads, cheeses on dark bread, and succulent pork with pickles. We usually have open sandwiches which are better eaten sitting down. Many of these dishes are also served atVienna wineries.

My selection ofauthentic eateriesbelow are free from junk and great for a quick drop in.

Meinl am Graben

snack bars Vienna: Meinl To GoSnack Bars Vienna. Meinl am Graben serves Vienna’s busy gourmets. The traditional coffee blender, roaster, and retailer; grocer and premium gastronomer runs a delicatessen store, snack bar, and first floor brasserie-style wine bar and restaurant with a stunning view of Graben right at the heart of luxury shopping streets Graben and Kohlmarkt. The deli feeds one of the best stocked snack bars Vienna has. While the café has a smaller selection of finger food and sandwiches, theMeinl To Godeli booth outside (photo) sells a wider range of sandwiches and snacks.
Don’t miss the deli store which stocks qualityAustrian food. Watch out for Meinl’s own brand (coffee, tea, chocolate and chocoate powder, jams, pumpkin seed oil, mugs and cups), Staud’s (jams and pickles), Zotter (chocolate), Fandler (oil) and Gölles (vinegars).

Leberkas Pepi

snack bars Vienna: LeberkaspepiSnack Bars Vienna. Arguably the most original place in Vienna to enjoy our traditional beef and pork loaf (Leberkäse) in a roll. It tastes a bit like Vienna sausage, just more savoury and juicy. The tiny snack bar offers several varieties of Leberkäse (with cheese, spinach, chili, truffles) in a setting that reminds me of a ski chalet….and that at a stone’s throw from the opera. You will find a mixed audience of Viennese hungry for familiar tastes, and tourists reaching out into the unknown.

Opening hours:Mondays to Saturdays 9.00 am to 2.00 am

Trzesniewski

Trzesniewski sandwich bar in ViennaSnack Bars Vienna. My everyday favourite is widely acclaimed original retro bar Trzesniewski (pro-nounce: T’shes’njews’ki) in a side street of Graben. It is undoubtedly the cultiest of snack bars Vienna has to offer. (According to my mother the bar’s interior hasn’t changed since the 1950s!) The home-madefluffy spreads on dark sourdough breadare the typical fast food from Austria. Trzesniewski have extended and elaborated the traditional spreads you would find atVienna wineries. 18 of the 21 different spread recipes haven’t changed since the beginnings: bacon and egg, salami, wild sweet pepper, mushroom, onion and egg, gervais with carrot. The list goes on. Arrive there before 12.30pm if you want to have a seat.
